Writing your own graded materials can be difficult. You need to strike a good balance between the following

a) making it enjoyable

b) making it comprehensible at the level you intend

c) making it age and interest apropriate

At some point you’ll need to consider your audience and the intended purpose of your text.

  • Who will read it?
  • What level are you aiming at?
  • Will it be primarily read for building reading speed, or for learning new vocabulary and grammar?
