No one hates to read. People read all day – magazines, emails, advertisements, road signs, train timetables, newspapers and so on. People only hate reading things which are boring and uninteresting. If you want to learn English well, you need to read well. Why read?
Reading helps
- build your vocabulary
- build your comprehension by reading some of er-central’s free texts
- builds reading speed
- you see how words and grammar connect to each other
- builds a sense of how the grammar and vocabulary fit together
Therefore, to learn English well you need to read a lot. If you prefer to listen, that’s fine too, but it’s often harder to learn new vocabulary and notice grammar patterns from listening as you cannot control the speed the words come to you. You can do when reading.
So, how can you find good things to read? These pages here have lists of books and series you may wish to read.
